July 11th & 12th - Auf Wiedersehen Germany, Bonjour France

Don writing this post.

Friday July 10th marked the 4th week I've been working in Walldorf, Germany.  I bid adieu to my SAP colleagues on Friday, after a super productive four weeks.  I really enjoyed it, and I do look forward to a return.

Holly and the boys arrived back from Austria to the Heidelberg apartment on Saturday evening.  Max wanted to eat at our favorite local restaurant Schwarzer Peter.  Seeing this would be our last night in Germany, this was a great idea.  After a typical German dinner of sausage/schnitzel & potatoes, we packed up our belongings and cleaned up the apartment in order to wake up early the next day for our drive to Lyon, France.

Lyon is about a 5 hour drive from Heidelberg.  One highlight was driving the German Autobahn-- no speed limits in most sections!  210km per hour was our top speed (130 mph) of which we cruised at for many kilometers while other German drivers passed us!

We arrived in Lyon without incident in the mid afternoon on Sunday. Nothing except restaurants are open on Sunday, so we took the chance to walk around on a beautiful warm (not hot) day before we checked into our apartment.   My first impression of Lyon is it is a beautiful city.  Our apartment sits on an island, sandwiched between the Saone and Rhone rivers.  Lots of little hills surround throughout, dotted with homes and historic buildings.  Quite charming.   In the evening, we ate at the bistro near our apartment (excellent choice Holly) which was convenient and pleasant.

We look forward this week to exploring the streets of Lyon, but tomorrow we drive to the Alps to bike ride up one of the famous climbs of the Tour de France, Alpe d'Huez.

Cheers
